Busy Busy Busy

The fall gymnastics season starts next weekend with the first meet on Sunday. J is competing level 6 but she is working really hard to move up to level 7. She is working on a half on vault in order to start throwing harder vaults. Here is a link to an example of what she is doing. VAULT

9/11

I was so busy at school today but still I had this nagging sadness all day. How do we make the world a place where terrorism does not happen any more? For that matter...how do we make the world a place where genocide does not happen any more? Child abuse? Slave trade? Oppression?

Why aren't you following my blog? Don't you know I will pester you until you do?

Okay Okay

So I haven't updated in a while! It was a VERY busy summer. We didn't get any vacation time. J did go to gymnastics camp at UNH and started to learn her back handspring on the balance beam. She went to her regular gymnastics work outs throughout the summer. She also spent two weeks at Camp Huckins and had a wonderful time. We managed to find time to spend Labor Day weekend at Camp Huckins for family camp. I spent my summer having my gall bladder removed...not the smooth operation the surgeon was anticipating but I survived and all is well, thanks Phoebe, for the after surgery care...and working at school. There was no real vacation. That won't happen again. I have already reserved two weeks next July. When someone says, "Can we meet on such and such a date?" I can now say, "Sorry, I'll be on vacation." That way we will have some time to do some fun stuff next summer I did manage to squeeze in some time to play Aunt Eller in OKLAHOMA! at the Summer Theater at Meredith Village. I had a blast!

The school year has been launched successfully. I can not believe J is in 6th grade already. Where has the time gone? She is very active. Competitive gymnastics takes up most of her free time. They start the fall competitive schedule in two weeks and then there is a meet every other weekend until the beginning of December. We are also starting middle school drama tomorrow.

For the first time in 5 years I am not involved in a fall community theater production. At first I was kinda worried I would miss it but it has been some what of a relief. I am sure I will get involved again. Well, I am still involved. I am helping a friend with the publicity for Mame at the Village Players and I am still on the board there. I am just not acting, choreographing or directing any productions this fall...except for the middle school show, James and the Giant Peach.

That's all for now. Check back again. I promise to update more often.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2009!

Hope you had a great holiday. We spent Christmas Eve at home. We did our own Christmas that morning. The American Girl doll that was back ordered some how arrived on time for Christmas. J was very excited to see her as I had told her it would not be here on time for Christmas. The Van Scoy-Giesslers, the Chadwick-Flemings and Michael Wilfert came over for an Italian dinner.

We flew out of Manchester at 7am heading for Washington DC on our way to Chicago...I don't get it either but that's the airlines. We were able to see the Washington monument from the window of our gate. We arrived in Chicago and were met by my brother, Dan and his family at the airport. When we got to Al's everyone was there (Well, not everyone. My brother, John and his boys were in Boise and my brother, Robert is in Thailand but everyone who was coming for Christmas was there). Al and Katie cooked dinner with some help from Ellen. I just stayed out of the way. The kids were great! Especially since we didn't do presents until after dinner.

On Friday the kids swam at the motel and we went to see "The Tale of Despereaux". Saturday was the Field Museum and more swimming. Sunday, more swimming, the Bears game and then the Dan Hill's headed home. J was very sad to see her cousins leave. We went to see "Marley and Me" with Uncle Al. Of course, neither J or I had read the book so we didn't know it was a tear jerker! On Monday J and went to Chicago to see the Christmas windows. I must say, Macy's, in Chicago and NYC, does not do windows like Marshall Field's and Carsons did them. We met Katie to skate in Millennium Park but the line to rent skates was over 2 hours long so we headed back to Katie's and played Guitar Hero and American Idol on the wii with Russ. Katie cooked dinner and we had a few rounds of Catch Phrase before heading back to Zion. On Tuesday we packed up, went to lunch with Uncle Al , and headed back to NH via Philadelphia. All in all, a very good trip.
